Redesigning the SSI digital experience

App Design / Research / Strategy / User Experience / Website Build

Background

Settlement Services International (SSI) is one of Australia's largest charity providers, helping settle refugees in Australia. The brand was 15 years old and due for a refresh.

Targeting the broader community, but particularly funding providers such as government and business, we worked with them to position the brand around its core purpose - equality.

Opportunity

Following a sustained period of diversification, the Board and Executive teams at SSI recognised the need for a brand strategy to be developed that would unite the organisation around the strategy, simplify the message in market and be a springboard for national growth.

Brand positioning

GHO conducted over 30 stakeholder interviews across all segments in and outside of the organisation.

Brand positioning

We also conducted our own research and ran workshops

This approach enabled us to make clear recommendations for consolidation of the brand portfolio and naming, alongside defining the brand purpose and positioning that would enable us to create distinction and a way forward that would be as agile as the organisation itself.

Brand identity

As a result, the strategy was endorsed by both board and executive at the first presentation, providing a strong springboard for a new brand identity and tagline to be developed that modernized the look and feel and united all the sub brands.

The new tagline, 'For equality of life', and new brand identity has been rolled out across all aspects of the organisation, including a redesigned public website and refugee experience incorporating service directories and resource hubs.

Website

After the brand positioning and brand identity, we transformed the SSI website experience.

In collaboration with the SSI team, we designed and built an innovative digital platform; connecting over 50 dedicated human services with a diverse network of individuals, families and children. SSI is driven by equal opportunity, so a central design challenge was delivering an accessible and intuitive experience at scale, for all Australians.

Refugee App Experience

We conducted a GHO CoLab Design Sprint, resulted in a prototyped app aiming to support migrants settling into Australia.

The app aimed to help people find local information, get set up, make a bank account etc – all the essentials when getting settled into a new home, in one place.
